$19M Verne Barry Place puts new live/work space on Avenue for the Arts

Two spacious live/work units at Verne Barry Place will go on the market February 15. Urban leaders say the units, located at 62 and 64 S. Division Avenue in downtown Grand Rapids, are a key part of the economic development along "The Avenue for the Arts," providing innovative studio, storefront, and residential digs for enterprising artists.

The units are in a newly constructed addition to the former Dwelling Place Inn, now known as Verne Barry Place. Each loft-style space is nearly 2,100 square feet on two levels connected by a spiral staircase.

The upper floor plan includes black kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, a full bath, and bamboo flooring. The commercial space downstairs includes storefront windows, a second bath, a utility sink, and stained concrete floors.

"Because we're gearing these units toward artists, we envision the commercial space being on the first floor and residential space on the second floor, but they can have it any way they want," says Heather Ibrahim, spokesperson for Dwelling Place, the project developer. "All the walls downstairs are primed and ready for residents to paint and customize however they want."

Two unique drawing cards are the enclosed parking space right outside the apartment door, and the second-level balconies overlooking Division.

The units rent for $2,000 month, including parking and utilities.
