Rapid Growth Speaker Series: Creative Cities, the Next Generation

The future of our cities depends on imaginative, forward-thinking leaders who can ask the right questions, think outside the box, and solve problems creatively. How are we teaching our children to imagine and innovate? How could we do better?

Join us Thursday, Aug. 22, 6 p.m. at the Creative Youth Center on Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids (formerly Literary Life Bookstore) for a special dual-city conversation about the state of arts education in Grand Rapids and Detroit. We'll hear from innovative educators on both sides of the state who are pushing the needle forward to ensure our city kids are bright, inquisitive, and ready to tackle the challenges of the future.

In Grand Rapids, the speakers will be:

Kim Dabbs - Executive Director, WMCAT
Casey Stratton - Music Program Coordinator, Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth
Lori Slager - Founder, Creative Youth Center
Jo-Ann VanReeuwyk - Director of Art Education Program, Calvin College

This Speaker Series is presented by Rapid Growth (Grand Rapids) and ModelD (Detroit), in partnership with Michigan Nightlight, with special thanks to and support from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.

The program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited; please register in advance here.
