If They'd Only Let Me: A theatrical game show without the theater

Thursday, Feb. 11, 8 p.m.
Valentine’s Day can be a time of bruises. No, not in an S&M kind of fashion but in how the heart, while on the path to love, often takes a few hits before bouncing back ... and often against all odds to find its match. Oh, ain’t love grand.

And who better to spend a night devoted to the ups and downs of love than a group of theatre people ready to entertain you with a rapturous night of song and dance?

Actors Theatre of Grand Rapids invites those fans of the musical genre to their special off-site event: If They'd Only Let Me: The Game Show!

Billed by Managing Director Kyle Los as a “high paced, highly interactive evening of entertainment that celebrates our two favorite things: Actors' Theatre and L-O-V-E,” this special one-night-only event is directed by Jolene Frankey, with song arrangements and the original game show score provided by music director Scott Patrick Bell, who will be tickling the ivories.

With a nod TV’s The Match Game, and featuring topics of blind dates, mama drama, and even an insider bit on the great and powerful Fred, this game show format invites even members of the audience to participate if selected side-by-side sketches with performers playing along with a chance to  win prizes.

There is even a pretty solid rumor that one local publisher/lifestyle editor, whose first name starts with “Tommy” and ends in “Allen,” will be making his Actors’ Theatre debut in a song and dance number that is sure to make drinks go down a lot faster at this new westside distillery.

If They'd Only Let Me is a night of song led by a cart of known and emerging actors who may not always get the starring role but, in this production, get to take center stage and capture the spotlight they truly deserve because of their talent.

A few names that you may recognize include Kathy Gibson and Larry Young to newcomers Macey Madias and Kyle Cain.  Ok, so I am a newcomer, too but to hear and see what I have cooked up, you need to pay to play at this special theatrical game show event.

Each paid admission includes the entertainment, delicious appetizers, and a very likely chance of joining in the game show fun yourself. It is suggested to forgo tradition and adopt attire on the spectrum of blue and black...like a bruise.

Admission: $30. (limited availability based on the size of this venue)
