Bassnectar: Come Join The Party

Saturday, Oct 5, 6:30 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. concert
The last time that Bassnectar performed in Grand Rapids was in 2010 and he packed the Intersection Lounge to capacity, selling out the venue. As the house lights came up, I met back up post-concert with the promoter, who said, “I hope you enjoyed the show because this is probably the last time he will be able to play here.”

When I inquired as to what he meant by that, he informed me that this act is growing at meteoric pace. And he was correct in that Bassnectar has since taken his visually rich, electronic dance music-fueled act to every continent but Antarctica.

So why the popularity for this act, who was last in (Detroit,) Michigan during the fall of 2012?  Besides being one of the greatest acts of the modern electronic music scene, it is this artist’s willingness to continually farm world rhythms to transform not only the genre but to open up new ways of experiencing live music entertainment.

For the most part, music these days is pretty sterile, with digital code dropping to your phone from a cloud and then most often enjoyed in solitude after putting on headphones. It is singular in scope for the most part if you look around.

However, a Bassnectar concert is more than just the music, as he brings an impressive light and video program that transports the listener to a higher plane induced by his seamless delivery.

And since we are in the high season of ArtPrize and many are seeking to continue that public experience of art, this is the perfect weekend closer to add to your weekend. It is a bit north of the center city but well worth the low cost of entry to be a part of a group experience of this scale.

Sure, you could host a pillow fight again in the Circle, but honestly, this repeat appearance is truly the ticket to get this weekend.

Opening for Bassnectar is Koan Sound</strong> and Andreilien (Heyoka)!

Admission: From $32.50
