Clips Beer + Film Festival: Projecting the Possible

Thursday, June 11, 8:30 p.m. (gates), 10:00 p.m. (films)
For the longest time, the Clips Beer + Film Festival was just a long shot dream as it hit other cities around the county. That is, until three years ago when it finally announced Grand Rapids would be a part of this very unique event devoted to beer, short films, and of course, having a really great time out under the summer night sky.

For each clips film tour, New Belgium Brewing (NBB) selects approximately 20 short films, with this year's including a panda with an attitude about craft beer, a mano-a-mano mountain bike brawl, a whimsical human-powered surf rig and one locally anticipated star with Brewery Vivant being featured in a film.

According to Asher Attick, our local Field Brander at New Belgium Brewing, a 100% employee-owned brewery, "We are all very excited to see our fellow B-Corp show off their values [on the big screen.]" (B-Corps are better than cool. They are a very real viable option for many looking to start a business within our region thanks to local B-Corp cheerleaders like Brewery Vivant...and the national NBB).

Attick says that the beer not to miss this year is the Film Noir Stout. It is a one-off Imperial Milk Stout available only at Clips this evening and they will only have one keg so you can be sure that will be the first to run dry. Clips has a list of beers they are bringing, including their very popular (and rare) sours such as La Folie and Transatlantique Kriek. Here is a list of the beer menu for this year.

The best part of this event is that it is a chance to showcase tasty beer as well as what is possible when we explore other economic models of incorporation in our work. (Here's to the first co-op brewery opening here soon!) Until then, we have great events like Clips, which showcase the power of projecting a new way of doing and drinking business together.

This event benefits our local Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition - an organization that advocates for safer and more accessible bicycling in the Greater Grand Raids area.
