Founders Fest: Hometown pride in a pint glass

My pride for our city increased significantly while in Pittsburgh recently, when I noticed a popular brunch spot had an hour wait as well as a main bank of taps totally devoted to Founders.

On Saturday we will have a chance to gather with our neighbors as well as those who will travel to our region to celebrate Founders Brewing Company's annual street party, Founders Fest – a one-day event devoted to indie music, local food, artisan offerings, and, of course, Founders award-winning beer.

The musical lineup this year is especially stellar, with Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Organissimo, Devin & The Dead Frets, Billy Strings & Don Julin, Elephant Revival, Gringo Star, and Nahko and Medicine for the People. And Founders Fest would not be complete without a performance from the FBC All-Stars, made up of Founders team members as well as guest performers.

Two stages will highlight the musical entertainment, and to keep the beer flowing all day long and into the night, they will have two beer tents with many of the rare specialties brewed just for Founders Fest.

The location of the festival is a real plus as well, as Founders is situated across from The Rapid's Central Station. In fact, taking a bus down and then Ubering back is probably still cheaper than driving and paying for parking.

And it is worth celebrating here at the end that Founders Fest seeks to improve their reputation as a ‘green festival’ by taking steps to ensure that their environmental impact is lessened. By partnering with High Five Program and Founders' Green Team they hope to hit their goal of 90 percent waste diversion.

Admission: Advance tickets for the general public are currently $25. If available, tickets will be for sale at the gates for $30.
