There is no shortage of places to have your funny bone tickled around town in the next couple of weeks, but to laugh your pants off is something reserved for Sunday, when Gilda's Laughfest, the nation's only community-wide festival of laughter, will hold their first-ever FUNderwear Run 5K presented by Universal Forest Products.
And while the racers are encouraged to sport their finest (and LOL!) underwear over their running clothes, it is no shock that a growing number of runners are threatening to run sans the pants in just a skin and undies combo that is sure to not only turn heads of the faithful as they head to church this Sunday, but is also sure to make for a fun reply via YouTube later for those too over the cold to venture (and they should.)
In addition, families and friends are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners, many of whom are using the run as a platform to raise money for Gilda's Club – a cancer and grief center in our region named after and inspired by the laughter-inducing actress Gilda Radner.
"This is a wonderful way to raise money and awareness for Gilda's Club, to engage our employees and their families in a great program and to have fun doing it," said Lynn Afendoulis, director of corporate communications for Universal Forest Products. "We're delighted that our success allows us to give back to the community and we're excited to have the opportunity to be a part of LaughFest and to bring this event to the streets and people of Grand Rapids."
The race begins at 10 a.m. on the Grand Rapids Community College campus. Day of registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Registered participants will receive an official race t-shirt. Participants can register for Gilda's LaughFest FUNderwear Run at laughfestgr.org/show/funderwear-run.
