Heavier Than Air Flying Machines: Three Years High, Landing Saturday

Saturday, Jan. 11, 9:00 p.m. doors
A few years ago Rapid Growth declared that the real art revolution in our region was not necessarily one led by art but by the influx of new musical acts that were unafraid to venture into new areas of sound to produce something truly remarkable. After more than five years sitting in the observation deck, I can clearly say, our music scene has never been better.

At the start of 2014, a period during which we often set out on new pathways, you might consider adding to your journey an opportunity to see the act, Heavier Than Air Flying Machines (HTAFM) that has been creating the most beautiful noise since their debut a few years ago.

On Saturday night this three-member act, which includes brothers Jaymes Pyne on vocals/guitar and Jeremy Pyne bringing their lovely distorted bass/backing vocals with drummer Trevor Goldner providing backing vocals, too, will debut their second release Novikov from Friction Records. The entire new release will be played from front to back as recorded on Novikov.

And while some acts may fret about their inability to move about the Midwest due to bandmates schedules, HTAFM actually do enjoy playing closer to home, though on the rare occasion jet out of the area out as the spirit moves them.

“Out of good fortune, our music has reached a wider audience through online bloggers and their inclusion in films and sports videos as well as through the efforts of Friction Records,” says Jaymes Pyne. “In 2012 we played NXNE in Toronto and hope with this new album to do some runs through Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison, which is where I live.”

As with everything the band sets out to do, they are casually cool and low key -- except during their shows, which will be pretty much in the same dynamic style the fans have come to enjoy. “We just love writing and playing the music and that's what really matters to us,” says Jaymes.

Also performing, as well as releasing a new CD this same night, will be the Cosmonaut with special guests + Suns + Spit For Athena opening this night of brand new music.
