The list of holiday artist markets takes some navigating these days and the granddaddy of them all kicks them off. It just so happens to be one I count myself lucky enough to be a part of each year since I joined more than 8 years ago.
When Tanglefoot 22 debuts this weekend, it is so much more now than just another holiday artists market but a chance to secure a look into the inner workings of the city’s longest-running open studio event.
I will be joining this group of more than 20 artists of all shapes, sizes, nationalities, gender, and even ages as Tanglefoot 22 is transformed into something more than just another legacy, place-making event: The artists of this collective space welcome the Dinderbeck Artists Collective in a special Dinderbeck Showcase this year.
By shining a light on Tanglefoot’s neighbor Dinderbeck, the two art spaces join forces to begin branding this emerging center with a soon-to-be-launched new entrepreneurial center at another neighbor’s facility, The Goei Center. The neighborhood also boasts a performance arts venue just a few steps away at the Tip Top Deluxe Bar and Grill.
While the art event takes place throughout the building as artists open their space to the public in this annual event, after the party shuts down folks might want to linger on the west side for a night out unlike anything the Center City could hope to provide. The Tip Top is hosting a
Sadie Hawkins Dance that night, so why not go west and stay west all night long?
