Lamp Light Music Festival: How to make a community's artists really shine

Friday - Sunday, Nov. 6 - 8
Recently I was speaking with a few folks at a local startup incubator and the topic shifted to music. We talked about the changes we’re seeing as a result of the people moving here but also how, with a little effort, one can add more life to their day through the addition of something new.

In this example of music, it became clear that, with the democratization of the tools needed to create and support a music business, Grand Rapids was feeling the love as more and more folks come to discover our once-sleepy riverside city.

The planners of Lamp Light Music Festival also have figured this out and over the years their programming has shown us a winning formula that other venues are using more and more: invite some great musicians to play in your city and make sure the ticket is stacked with locals too.

This weekend is the return of Lamp Light Music Festival, a local music event (often with surprise guests) that takes place in a series of homes located in the heart of Eastown. And while they might be seen by some venues as a threat with so many acts playing in these non-traditional spaces, Lamp Light is, as they say (and in the best conference speak I can muster), a “value add” to our city in every way as a result of this blending of local music, fresh art, and of course, delicious food of our region.

The event is the perfect event for those seeking to sample the latest (and possibly rarest) of opportunities to discover a new act or band within the smallest moments of time as this three-day festival jam packs its schedule with an amazing group of diverse acts.

Here is a link to show you all the acts joining our city’s most amazing DIT (do-it-together) music festival of all time. It is wonderful to see live.

A few notes on how to get your day or weekend pass to Lamp Light Music Festival:

Via the web: Please use Brown Paper Tickets but this option closes on Thursday evening.

For the collector in you: A 2015 keepsake ticket designed by Lamp Light’s talented artists can be purchased for $30 at Vertigo Music on Division Avenue.

Day-of Passes: These can be purchased at the door for $15 but bring cash (unless you know how to use SquareCash.) No credit card sales are available at the door this year.
