Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire: Hands on STEAM education

Saturday Sept. 5, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. & & Sunday, Sept. 6, noon - 5 p.m.
Not sure what to do with yourself or the kids on this last weekend before most return to focus on education matters? Then it might be a great time to consider taking those young and eager minds to the Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire held at the Grand Rapids Public Museum and Grand Valley State University's Pew campus.

If you have never been to a maker event, this one is a smaller-scaled event compared to the larger ones organized around the world. Focusing on the next generation of makers, it gives a nod to the use of innovation and engineering to create something new.

Our local fair will include established and emerging local “makers" from the Grand Rapids area in a family-friendly atmosphere that is sure to inspire everyone. Plan on seeing lots of rockets, robots, DIY science projects, creative use of technology, urban farming techniques, advances in reuse and sustainability, alternative energy demonstrations, original bicycles, hand-made crafts, local food, and educational installations.

Part science fair, part county fair, with a dash of something entirely new, the Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering that pulls from science, engineering, and the arts field in an event with plenty of hands-on opportunities for attendees to ask questions and even participate in the process.

Maker Faire is supported by Make: magazine and Maker Media.
