A Sleeping Beauty Somewhere in Time: Hidden Parent's Retreat Contained Within

Opening, Wednesday, June 25 (through June 29)
Any parent will tell you that when the opportunity arises over the summer to place a child in the care of someone else to take over the entertaining, you jump at the opportunity.

At Aquinas College, Circle Theatre is debuting A Sleeping Beauty Somewhere in Time - a bold update of an old Norwegian folklore tale.

This version of Sleeping Beauty, written by Randy Wyatt, is a story of a furious uninvited faerie who crashes the royal christening of a new baby and, in doing so, delivers a bone-chilling prophecy: this infant princess is doomed on her 16th birthday.

As any modern parent who has attempted to head off the flu or a cold will understand, the princess' parents employ a bevy of spells and fevered plans from the magical creatures to change what we all know is probably inevitable. (These old classics were dark and yet they still resonate with themes felt today.) Did I mention this is also a love story? Buckle up; the lessons here make it a good one for discussing over a meal later.

Circle Theatre is also offering a contest through a new venture with the Wege Foundation. Together, they are holding a community leadership contest for students ages 8-14 years old in conjunction with the Magic Circle's production of A Sleeping Beauty Somewhere in Time.

In an effort to raise awareness about how young people can better their community through civic service and leadership, Circle is hoping to inspire a next generation to see the beauty of being community leader.

For complete details on the contest and awards that will be handed out on opening night June 25, please see the website.

In addition, Circle is hosting a special Sleeping Beauty Coronation Ball on Saturday, June 28 at 1 p.m. This very special affair begins in the Wege Ballroom as little princess and princes ages 5 - 12 (along with their kings and queens) enjoy royal treats, storytime, crafts, and a matinee performance of A Sleeping Beauty Somewhere In Time. Reservations required. Tickets for the event are $25 for princes and princesses and $15 for kings and queens.

Complete times for this special run of A Sleeping Beauty are June 25 at 7:00 p.m., June 26 & 27 at 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., and June 28 & 29 at 3:00 p.m.
