Soaked in Soul: Amy Winehouse's resurrection

Saturday, May 14, 8 p.m. doors, 9 p.m. showtime
I have always felt sorry for Amy Winehouse fans, who never really got a proper tribute response like other musicians have received of late with Prince and David Bowie’s passing.

But when you hear Jade & the Jones Fellas — a Michigan-based Amy Winehouse tribute band —  you will be hard pressed not to feel a tiny bit nostalgic for the book of music she left behind that is on stage at Billy’s on Saturday night.

Billed as the Soaked in Soul concert, Jade & the Jones Fellas will be diving into the songbook of music written by or made popular through the vocal stylings of the late Amy Winehouse.

In addition and what I believe to be a very unique twist on the typical tribute formula is that the producers of this concert have included songs from other artists that Winehouse clearly was influenced by, or inspired her to push beyond, breaking the barriers of nostalgia and its grip. This includes interesting selections from the rawness of TLC, Sublime, Salt & Peppa, but also the soul-infused performers like Billie Holiday and Bob Marley.

This BlueSpark Music Co. assembled all-star cast of musicians in this tribute performance include members of Hey Marco!; Pete Muszkiewicz, Chase Jackson, and Jacob Krull; members of MOODS and the Gravestones; with Brad Fritcher on Trumpet, Dutcher Snedeker on keys, and special guest artist Mark Jackson. BlueSpark Music Co. is committed to the support and cultivation of our state’s local music industry.
