Stella Remembered: Local table read sets the stage for Broadway

Before any play can work its way into the hearts of a culture, a playwright often workshops his or her new offering via a time tested process of a table read.

The "Stella Remembered" table reading is an extremely unique experience for our theatre community for a host of reasons. Managing director Kyle Los of the Actors' Theatre offers two great reasons why you should not miss this one, written by Betsy Howie.

According to Los, this is the first (of hopefully many more) opportunity for the West Michigan arts community to be a part of this process that will no doubt impact the future of a highly promising piece of theatre.

A group of local actors with Howie and Grand Rapids legend (and now Los Angeles resident) Emmy award winning screenwriter/producer Romney Vaccaro have been over the last two weeks working through the text to create this special night of theatre. The process is breathing the first ounces of life into a new production that will work its way hopefully to bigger stages in the years ahead.

Author Betsy Howie has created a moving exploration of her past with the Grande Dame of American Theatre, Stella Adler. If you are unfamiliar with Ms. Adler's lessons in theatre and life, this play will enable you to see an up close portrait of a woman who shaped so much of the movies and plays we see today through her methodology of acting.

Come be a part of this unique experience of script development that also provides the audience a chance to discuss the piece with the author.
