West Michigan Sports Commission adds a national sales manager

Entering its seventh year, the West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC) has hired Peggy Keiper as national sports sales manager, a new position for the organization.

According to Mike Guswiler, president, his three-person staff has helped book more than 280 sporting events and tournaments in the region since the organization's inception.

With the addition of Keiper, WMSC now has the resources to build on its success and begin extending its sales reach to national events. "It's long overdue. We were formed in 2007 and have had a success with our staff of three. Our charge was to bring in visitors to the area through sports, and we have hit all our strategic goals to this point." Guswiler highlights the Meijer State Games and the campaign to fund a sports complex that hosts youth and adult softball tournaments as two of the organization's completed goals.

Guswiler says Keiper brings the national sales experience to help the WMSC broaden its reach. "We had a lot of qualified sales people apply, some local, some outside of state. Peggy brings the qualification of working in the exact same position and a track record of exceeding in her goals."

Keiper, a Michigan native, most recently worked with the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau where she served as national sports sales manager, booking national and international events.
