New health food company launches in West Michigan

A healthy snack food and supplement company recently launched in West Michigan, targeting individuals diagnosed with Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes.

The Wayland-based InBalance Health officially opened July 1, 2012 and according to Chief Science Officer Dr. Don VerHulst MD, its initial offerings include the INBar (a snack bar) and supplements that feature a patent-pending mulberry leaf extract. Verhulst summarizes the uniqueness of their offerings in a very succinct way. "The difference is that our products are chemical-free. Just look at our ingredient list and you will see names you will recognize."

The firm currently employs three individuals and is currently seeking to hire a marketing and PR professional. In the very near future, the plan is to add several sales and support staff.

Bob Serulla, co-founder, is very optimistic about their company's future. "There is a  need in the market place for something for diabetics without chemicals -- real food for real people. 25 percent of Americans have Type 2 Diabetes in the U.S. India has the largest population of diabetics. It is a worldwide epidemic." Serulla is a veteran of the health food industry. In 1980, he founded Warren Nutrition, a health food store with four locations in Michigan.

Products will initially be sold online as sales channels are developed through a variety of specialty retailers. Future plans are in the works to create more products and supplements targeting a variety of health conditions.
