Holland's Boileau Communications expands offerings with new video capabilities

As the world of corporate communications expands with web-based technology that helps clients tell their stories, Holland-based Boileau Communications jumped at the idea of bringing aboard an experienced video producer to make its storytelling options more complete.

Owner Randy Boileau, who started the company as a one-man show, has slowly grown the firm over the last eight years into a six-person operation that includes his twin sons Erich and Vincent Boileau. Vincent joined the company in early February and brings with him experience as a video producer for Grooters Productions. He is credited on three full-length films: The Frontier Boys, What’s Wrong With Virginia and Tug.

"We've seen an explosion in our web business over the past two or three years," says Randy Boileau. "We're a company that helps clients tell their story, and video is completely integrated with the web, so we can do short, punchy videos and it becomes a very effective storytelling device."

Boileau says the videos will include filmed segments as well as computer-based motion graphics.

"Everything in our first three or four years was traditional print and broadcast pieces, but then we saw web storytelling really explode," he says. "The more we did, the more people asked us to do, until that work now represents 50 to 60 percent of our business."

Boileau Communications received its first ADDY Award this year for communications work for the Holland Board of Public Works.

"It's a great thrill for a smaller firm like ours to be able to walk into the room with some of the bigger firms that will be there," Boileau says.
