West Michigan students score better than state average on ACT tests

The Grand Rapids Press reports that students in most schools in West Michigan have scored better than the state average in the latest round of the American College Tests administered as part of the Michigan Merit Exam.

Among the highest average scores were students attending Forest Hills Public Schools, Grand Rapids City High School, Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Spring Lake High School and several Grand Rapids Christian schools.

According to excerpts from the story:

"Overall, I'm pleased with our scores, but it's one of many indicators of students' growth in learning," said Dan Behm, superintendent at Forest Hills, where scores at all three high schools ranked among the area's best. "Our purpose is to foster deep learning, not simply do well on tests."
