Obama to visit Holland to help break ground on new lithium-ion battery plant

The Holland Sentinel reports that President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Holland this afternoon to help break ground for a $303 million lithium-ion battery plant, a company expected to help transform the area into a leading battery supplier for the emerging electric car industry.

Located on the southside of Holland, the LG Chem/Compact Power plant is projected to produce automotive battery cells by early 2012 and grow its employment level to 400 by 2013.

"This is fantastic news for Holland to have the president of the United State coming to our community Mayor Kurt Dykstra said, noting that the president visit shows his administration's continued commitment to the lithium-ion battery technology.
