Thai restaurants are growing in number in the West Michigan dining scene

As reported in The Grand Rapids Press, Thai restaurants in West Michigan are relatively new to the area, but they are thriving with their lighter, fresher and potentially very spicy dishes. Among them are Thai Fusion which opened last month at 3097 Broadmoor Ave. SE in Kentwood, Erb Thai, set to open soon at 1117 Wealthy St. SE, Thai Cuisine, slated to open in downtown Grand Rapids this July at 48 W. Fulton St, and Rak Thai Bistro which opened about a year ago at 5260 Northland Drive NE.

According to excerpts from the story:

While popular dishes like Pad Thai and Masaman Curry were tough to come by a few years ago, there are now more than a dozen places offering Thai food in Kent and Ottawa counties, with more on the way.

"Before I came here, the reason I chose Grand Rapids is there were almost no Thai restaurants here," said Yang Hang, an ethnic Hmong who was born in Thailand, immigrated to the U.S. as a child and attended Michigan State University.
