Michigan Democrats introduce tax credits to keep battery manufacturing momentum going

A report in the Muskegon Chronicle says Michigan democrats have introduced proposals for tax credits for advanced battery manufacturing and folks who purchase electric vehicles.

If Gov. Rick Snyder calls business tax credits “picking winners and losers,” Democratic state legislators say they'll “pick” Michigan's burgeoning advanced battery industry.

At a series of events across the state, Democratic legislators Monday introduced a package of proposals they say will keep the momentum going in the automotive battery industry.

At the heart of the proposals are business tax credits for battery manufacturers and income tax credits for purchasers of electric vehicles built in Michigan. State Rep. Marcia Hovey-Wright, D-Muskegon, outlined the plan at Muskegon Community College, along with state Reps. Brandon Dillon and Roy Schmidt — both Grand Rapids Democrats.
