Holland town hall meeting presents ideas for the city's energy sustainability

The Holland Sentinel reports that ideas surrounding energy sustainability for homes in the city to help curb energy consumption and make the city more sustainable overall.

According to excerpts from the Holland Sentinel:

Involving single family homes in the energy process is the trick, said Peter Garforth, of Garforth International.

The Holland Community Sustainability Committee hosted a town hall meeting Monday night with Garforth to discuss the three scenarios he's developed for the city to consider as its future in energy. The city of Holland retained Garforth International earlier this year to develop a sustainable energy plan for the community.

Garforth thinks big.

Just as new cars display how many miles to the gallon they can get, when homes are sold, people can ask for an energy certificate when they buy a home in Holland that shows how efficient a home is. It happens in Europe, he said.
