City of Montague extends nearly $1M to aid construction of new fire station

Montague’s new fire station is on track for completion despite serious financial challenges. Thanks to the city, the financial woes have been set aside for now.

According to excerpts from the story:

When the Montague Fire Authority decided to put off its bond sale, it couldn’t put off building its new fire station. The construction had already begun. That meant the authority needed to come up with some cash to pay the construction crews.

The City of Montague, which is a member of the fire authority, stepped in and said they could help.

“We have a lot to be thankful for with the city agreeing to help us out,” said Tracy Korthase, chairwoman of the Montague Fire Authority board. The help turned out to be substantial: So far the city has put up almost $900,000 in payments for the new fire station, according to Montague City Manager John French.
