Fox Lake Park awarded $l.3M grant for upgrades, trails

West Michigan residents continue to list parks and recreational areas as drawing cards for living in the region, and the village of Lakewood Club is responding with over $2.5 million in improvements to their central park and the creation of two additional pocket parks, all made possible with a matching grant from the state.

According to excerpts from the story:

Fox Lake Park, one of the centers of community life in the village of Lakewood Club, has languished for years.

Resident surveys suggested the community wanted to enjoy the park, located on the shores of the lake, but several factors — including inaccessibility, lack of upkeep and unimproved beach area — meant that wasn’t happening.

Those kinds of complaints could be a thing of the past, following a December Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund award announcement that the village could receive as much as $1,263,500 — totaling $2,527,000 with local matching funds — to renovate the park, create two more neighborhood ‘pocket parks’ on the east and west ends of the village, and dredge and improve Fox Lake, over the next 18 years.
