Kent County Commission may reconsider a local vendors preference policy

Kent County Commissioner Brandon Dillon (D-Grand Rapids) says he plans to introduce a "local preference policy" at the next legislative and human services committee next week that would allow local vendors a chance to rebid on county projects if their original bid came within 5 percent of the lowest bid. It's a proposal rejected last year by former Chairman Roger Morgan (R-Rockford).

According to excerpts from the story:

Dillon said the policy might encourage vendors to relocate to Kent County and become taxpayers here. It also would help county businesses struggling in the down economy, he said. Commission Chairwoman Sandi Frost Parrish, R-Cascade Township, said she is considering giving the idea a second look.
