A “Third Place” for everybody

Several West Michigan business leaders are promoting “third place” remote work centers as the latest amenities expected to draw young professionals and knowledge-based workers to the region. A new WIRED project targets three communities as the best places to start.

According to excerpts from the story:

WEST MICHIGAN — Plans to set up "third place" remote work centers in Newaygo, Muskegon and Ada are moving forward as part of the WIRED (Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development) initiative.

The remote work centers would enable knowledge workers to utilize state-of-the-art technology in a professional environment. They could be described as Starbucks with Kinko’s capability; places for people who either cannot or do not want to open up their laptops at home or in the office.

Charlie Grantham, executive producer of Arizona and California-based Work Design Collaborative LLC is a contractor for the WIRED project, and is recommending integrated places for business, education and the community. The WIRED Policy Council has approved the business plan and the concept as part of the Third Places project.
