Alan D. Blackmon

I chose to make Grand Rapids my place of residence in 2009 after graduating from Grand Valley State University with my Bachelors of Science in Legal Studies and Criminal Justice.  A friend of the family made me aware of the job opening with Grand Rapids Public Schools and I chose to apply for the position. The interview was the best one that I have had to date, I was certain that I had the job.

As a Youth Advocate, I work with at at-risk students, their families and other administrative and support personnel within the school to advocate for the rights of at-risk youth. My duties range from providing guidance in student's decision-making process to assessing and implementing appropriate intervention plans.

This job was the kind of opportunity that I was waiting for. I have a passion for working with individuals to impact change in their lives. I am forever grateful to Grand Rapids Public Schools for allowing me this opportunity to further my professional growth.
