I am responsible to the entire HR function at the JW; hiring, orientation, new hire training, Marriott required training, benefit explanation, coordination and maintenance (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Voluntary Life Insurance, 401 (k), Profit Sharing), worker's compensation, disciplinary action, employee mediation, conflict resolution, creating and maintaining new employee files/medical files, etc. I also am responsible for associate events including planning and execution of a Marriott Appreciation Week, Associate and Leader of the Year Celebration, Holiday events, etc. I am also the hotel's campaign coordinator for United Way, planning our yearly campaign. I am a member of the hotel's Leadership Team or Executive Committee, so it is crucial to form relationships with all associates, including management to create an environment of open communication and support. I also answer a LOT of questions! The JW Marriott is owned by the Amway Hotel Corporation, so there is a lot of communication between properties, as well as, a very cohesive HR team between the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, the JW Marriott, and the Courtyard by Marriott. We utilize similar policies and procedures and rely on consistency.
