Autumnal Respire: A New Destination for Art

Friday, Sept. 16, 5-10pm and Saturday, Sept. 17, 4-10pm
One thing that is very certain in Grand Rapids is that events do indeed have a life cycle and not all events get to go on indefinitely. Destination 1111, an event unknown to many of us, was already on its way out some time ago when the organizers realized their event was a great place to party, but the mission of selling and connecting with collectors had fallen off the radar. So rather than close up shop and move on, the artists of this popular destination fine-tuned their space and were reborn as the Artists Collective at 1111. The result of this rebranding has meant that the spaces have attracted a new round of artists in addition to many of the exciting artists who have called this place their studio for years now. On Friday and Saturday, they will debut the Autumnal Respire, a celebration of the local artist that seeks to get the jump as one of the first open studio events of the fall season. This year, look for many other firsts like the first time husband and wife artist Jay and Patty Constantine will be showing together along with one of the every first chances to see Nice's new finished space. One thing they will not be lacking is art, as Grand Valley State University and Ferris State University will be represented in these warehouses as well. "We will be packing quite a bit of art into our north building," says Geary Jones, one of the organizers, "and we will be offering a chance to see several live acts and spoken word in addition to the great variety of mediums presented from ceramics, painting, weaving, sculpture, glass and collage."
