MeXo’s Cinco De Mayo Cumbia Dance Party: Dance as a cultural communicator

Saturday, May 4, 10 p.m.
MeXo, 118 Fulton Street East
There is no shortage of Cinco De Mayo celebrations in our city, but this year there is one event that I am certain is going to be a hot ticket: the Cinco De Mayo Cumbia Dance Party held at MeXo, produced with MamboSi Entertainment.

Sure, you could go to any one of the many pubs or bars offering a Cinco De Mayo celebration this weekend to eat tacos and wash it down with a tequila drink.

However, MeXo has shown within its short time in our region to be a very serious business that is all about sharing the rich and delicious history of their tasty cuisine offerings in downtown Grand Rapids.

And while you can still have dinner there on Saturday night, those willing to extend their fun beyond the supper hour are invited to purchase a ticket to attend the dance party that starts at 10 p.m. The dancing fun extends well into the early hours of the morning as they commemorate Cinco De Mayo with a cumbia dance party.

At this special event, MeXo will showcase not just cumbia dance music but bachata, salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and banda, too. The night’s curation of music is provided by DJ Tony Banks.

There will be plenty of delicious cocktails to order at this 21 and older event where admission is a remarkably low $10 in advance or $15 at the door. In addition to gaining entry to such a fun dance party and at a great price, with each paid admission comes with complimentary appetizers and free parking.

And even if you cannot stay up late dancing on Saturday night but want to sample the goodness of their kitchen, MeXo will be running special Cinco de Mayo drink and food specials all weekend long.

So if you have waited to visit MeXo, then this is the weekend to join the celebration.

Tickets in advance may be purchased here.
