Amid Grand Landing's boutiques, shops, restaurants, and hotel, 40 residential condos rise along the banks of the Grand River. The first phase of the 20-acre resort opens October 1, and, so far, condo pre-sales are just over the 50 percent mark.
The condominiums range in size from 800square-foot one-bedroom units to a four-bedroom floor plan of just over 2,000 square feet. But these aren't your ordinary condos.
Every one-bedroom unit includes a 32-foot-long balcony, and a typical two-bedroom has a 47-foot-long balcony with sliding glass doors off one bedroom and the main living space. Balconies on the larger condos are 57 feet.
"Most of the condos have views of the river and good views of fireworks for 4th of July celebrations and the Coast Guard Festival," says President Craig Adams, who is developing Grand Landing with his business partner, Don Knape.
Plans for future phases include a community pool, a 2,000-foot boardwalk along the river, and a small waterfront amphitheater/ice skating rink.
Condo prices range from the middle $100s to $300,000.
"Many of the medical jobs in Grand Rapids will be filled by people who come from outside the West Michigan area," Adams says. "They already have a 35- to 40-minute commute to work, so a 30-minute drive to Grand Rapids is no problem. We’ve designed our residential areas for those people."
