Area builders honored for landmark projects throughout the region

Several area commercial builders received awards honoring their expertise, vision, and ability to construct many of West Michigan's most impressive landmarks. Some 40 judges cast their votes after visiting the site of each project and pouring over background materials for the 22nd annual Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Awards revealed on October 25, 2007.

The judges selected the honorees from a pool of 110 nominations in 45 categories. Winning projects include Haworth Center, Holland; JW Marriott Hotel, Grand Rapids; GVSU's John C. Kennedy Hall of Engineering, Grand Rapids; Founders Bank & Trust, Grand Rapids; Christ Memorial Church, Holland; and Gentex, Zeeland.

Rockford Construction was one of the few companies to receive multiple awards. ABC awarded Rockford the Historic Restoration Award for their work on the historic Pike House/Design Plus Headquarters located at 230 East Fulton in Grand Rapids, and the Historic Renovation Award for the Penn Plaza Building at 126 Ottawa in downtown Grand Rapids.

"Being recognized among our industry peers with a recognition from ABC is a high honor for Rockford Companies," says John Wheeler, CEO. "We have had some excellent opportunities to showcase our abilities, and these two projects were among the most challenging and rewarding."
