After six months of discussions between the City of Grand Rapids, Metro Health, and Beacon Hill at Eastgate the city commission approved conveyance of Renaissance Zone tax-exempt status from Metro Health to Beacon Hill at Eastgate. In addition, the city commission extended the life of the Ren Zone from 2012 to 2017.
Beacon Hill at Eastgate, a continuing care retirement community planned for the Metro Health site on Boston SE and the adjacent Michigan Christian Home, is the only one in the state designated as a Ren Zone.
“The residents moving into the new property will have the ability to reduce their monthly service fees by $35 to $60,” says Scott Kearney, spokesperson for Hidalgo & DeVries, the marketing agency for Beacon Hill.
The $60 million complex provides nearly 300,000 square feet of living space in four areas: independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory support housing for persons with Alzheimer's and other brain disorders.
Independent living residents can choose from 14 floor plans for the one-, two-, and three-bedroom condominiums. Condos range in size from 738 square feet to 1,450 square feet. Purchase prices have not been determined.
Amenities in the centrally located grand entrance building include three dining rooms, a café/coffeehouse, a large private dining room to accommodate family gatherings, a wellness area with a pool and Jacuzzi, and a full-service spa.
Metro Health will relocate to the new Metro Health Village in Wyoming, MI in the coming weeks. Kearney expects demolition and groundbreaking in early 2008, with completion in 2009.
