The Christian Counseling Center’s new 12,500-square-foot digs at 1870 Leonard NE are going up right on schedule. With expanded counseling offices, a room for seminars, and a special child therapy area, the Center will be one of the area’s most well-equipped facilities for low-income therapy patients, and patients without insurance.
“The walls and roof are almost up,” said Director of Advancement Bruce VanderMolen. “Until recently the weather’s been great, so it’s been very good for building this winter.”
VanderMolen plans a Labor Day opening.
Next steps include running the plumbing and electrical, which should be done by February.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification has been part of the construction plans since day one. Flooring, wallcoverings, and countertops will be made from recycled materials. There will be a bike rack and a shower for employees who want to bike to work. Energy film on the windows will deflect heat in the summer to help with air conditioning costs.
“This building is critically important to our organization,” VanderMolen said. “It will enhance and improve our ability to expand our services.”
This is the first building owned by the Christian Counseling Center since its founding in 1941.
