Based on the philosophy that the Internet is changing everything—communication, shopping, advertising, and entire industries—one Grand Rapids video studio has relocated to 40 S. Division and set a course for leveraging the Digital Age.
Creo Productions LLC, once based out of co-owner Aaron Carriere’s Eastown home, will use both levels of the storefront for creative studios: a video studio on the main level and a future audio recording studio on the lower level.
“We’re looking to help companies tell their stories in a different way,” Carriere says.
He and Andrew Tingley, both 26, bill themselves as “new media storytellers for the 21st Century.” They started Creo (Latin for “to create”) in 2006 and have since produced a documentary on Yesterdog, plus worked with clients from a variety of industries, including publishers, IT firms, a record label, a rehabilitation hospital and restaurants.
“For so long companies thought, ‘We have to do direct mail, we have to do a PowerPoint, we have to do a 30-second commercial,’” Carriere adds. “You can use video in such a different way now and can use it on the Internet. When companies find that the old ways of communicating just aren’t working, we can give them a full context.”
The future audio studio will interface with MacIntosh computers for recording and editing. The room will be soundproofed and have enough space for a four-piece band to record together or lay down individual tracks.
“The entire music industry has changed, the old way is completely gone. We can record a band’s music and film their performances. There’s potential in that. If you have a local following you can produce a local CD, sell it online, go on tour and be truly an independent musician.”
