The first phase of the $70 million Grand Landing resort in Grand Haven, MI is set to open October 1 with at least two recognized regional restaurants and six locally-owned shops ready to go for the busy holiday shopping season. The 120,000-square-foot The Village at Grand Landing includes 34,000 square feet of retail, 8,000 square feet of office, and 40 residential condominiums along the south channel of the Grand River at US-31 and Jackson Avenue.
While Culver's opened last April and Jimmy John's opened two weeks ago, last week most of the retail space was handed over to new tenants Earth's Edge, The Channel, Rockpile Surf Shop, Sunflower Gourmet, Plantenga's Cleaners, and Sweet Temptations Ice Cream Factory.
"We built Grand Landing not so much as a lifestyle center, but as a 20-acre resort with retail shopping opportunities, hotel and convention center, and four waterfront restaurants," says President Craig Adams. "The property is a unique site. It's a Brownfield and it's the gateway to Grand Haven, right at the foot of the drawbridge."
A recent traffic study revealed that US-31 carries 60,000 cars a day past the development site, Adams says. He adds that although Grand Haven is a top vacation destination, the shops are not seasonal shops dependent on summer tourists.
