Rockford will
begin constructing a new three-story, 84-unit apartment building this fall
aimed at student renters in the Near West Side. The estimated $3.1 million
project, located at 601 Lake Michigan Drive,
will feature a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
The new building will rise largely on vacant ground, though
the developers, Y&P LLC, also purchased some neighboring homes to add to
the property. The David A. Hunting YMCA branch is just two blocks east of the
future apartment building, a potential draw for students.
The building will take 11 months to complete. If the
apartments prove attractive to students, Rockford
will construct a second building on the property.
