Space Source, a commercial real estate company, used to be headquartered in Holland. Now they've merged their lakeshore and Grand Rapids offices and moved into a space they renovated on the third floor of the Founder's Bank Building at 161 Monroe.
"Dan Dykgraaf, the owner of Space Source is one of the building's owners," said Ken Skinner, construction manager, "and he wanted us to be where all the action is."
The $2 million project includes remodeling the 10,000-square-foot third floor, where Space Source occupies about 5,000 square feet; Colburn Hundley has the other half. In addition to creating 14 offices, the renovation includes a full kitchen and conference room. Just outside, on the second floor's rooftop, is a 2,000-square-foot patio for employees and for entertaining clients.
The main floor is occupied by Founder's Bank and Trust. The building's Monroe Avenue frontage was expanded ten feet, the bank added a new lobby, and new storefronts were added. The exterior was re-skinned with a facade composed of a granite and metal panel system, and glass.
"The back of the second floor opens up to the skywalk," Skinner said. "All the people who walk to the JW Marriott, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Van Andel Arena, and the convention center all walk right by there.
Space Source will customize the second floor's 7,000 square feet to fit the needs of commercial tenants, said Skinner.
"I'm not bragging or anything," Skinner said, "but the inside of this building, it's one of the coolest buildings around."
