Urban salon brings day spa destination to Heartside

64 Ionia is the home of hot dog heaven Hritz Koney Island, a plethora of offices, and now Studio 64 Salon & Day Spa, Heartside's only venue offering a pedicure with a view. That's right. While patrons relax with a pedicure and foot massage, they can watch what's happening in the neighborhood, study traffic on the S Curve, or even take in a sunset.

"We have a custom built pedicure stage with stadium seating that rises above the window sill and overlooks the city to the west," says Paul Priest, co-owner of the salon with James Jett. "No one can see you getting a pedicure, but you can catch beautiful sunsets."

Divided into a variety of rooms—each dedicated to hairstyling, massage, nail care, body waxing and facial treatments, or spray tanning—the 5,000-square-foot salon encompasses the entire second floor of the 6-story building.

Clients can access wireless Internet in a cozy space appointed with bistro chairs and tables. A glass block wall separates the area from the rest of the salon and allows customers a secluded space to relax during longer appointments.

Future expansion will include a private room for Botox and Microdermabrasion treatments.

"Tall House is going up across the street, and it's getting saturated downtown with housing and condo life," Priest says. "We just wanted to try to bring some more business downtown."
