Local remodeler marks year with three major milestones

The folks at Thompson Remodeling, Inc. are walking proudly these days after being recognized by their peers for two awards and bringing home the Certified Graduate Remodeler designation from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Thompson Remodeling recently learned that they are the winners of the Regional Contractor of the Year Award in the Residential Addition under $100,000 category.

“Our project,” said Thompson’s General Manager Ben Thompson, “was an extremely energy efficient addition to a log home in Rockford. It involved creativity and problem solving because we were working with an existing structure and everything had to be designed and built to match.”

The project also was submitted to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry for consideration for the top honor: National Contractor of the Year. The winner will be announced on March 24 at a gala event in Austin, Texas.

In September, the company won the coveted Homebuilders and Associates in Partnership (HAP) award from the Home & Building Association of Greater Grand Rapids.

“It was a very meaningful award for us to receive,” Thompson said. “It was a wonderful validation that we are people of integrity.”

Applicants are recommended for the award by the suppliers they deal with, and are rated on trust, communication, loyalty, ethics, and consideration. Only one builder/remodeler receives the award each year.

Another milestone came when Thompson joined just five other builders in West Michigan who have earned the Certified Graduate Remodeler title through the National Association of Home Builders (NHAB). The NHAB’s curriculum included business law, business management, estimating projects, and other core disciplines it takes to run a professional remodeling company.
