Thompson Remodeling recently added a new national award to its list of recognitions: Grand Prize for Sterling Plumbing’s (part of Wisconsin-based Kohler) Kitchen & Bath Design Contest. Already this year, Thompson Remodeling has garnered the prestigious Regional Contractor of the Year Award, and other major awards and certifications.
Kristin Thompson, one of the company’s three designers, remodeled a 1980s-era bathroom to an updated urban design for just under $10,000—quite a feat since a typical new bathroom starts at $17,000.
By reusing cabinetry and other materials, and not moving existing fixtures, Kristin upgraded everything and kept costs to $145 per square foot. Her creative style and clever use of materials caught the judges’ eye.
Her prize? In addition to a three-day get-away to The American Club, the country’s only five-diamond hotel and spa, Kristin also won her company a complete selection center showroom from Sterling.
Ben Thompson, company spokesperson and Kristin’s husband, says he has no idea how much business this award could generate for the company.
“It’s just a fantastic conversation starter with potential clients,” Ben says, "and a fantastic third party endorsement on a national scale. You need different things to get people talking about your company.”
The showroom will be open for customers soon, and will be a working showroom where customers can see and touch the fixtures and other products they might want to use in their remodeling projects. In the meantime, the company continues to grow with the addition of a third designer, a bookkeeper, and a marketing and sales administrator.
