Grand Rapids Experiences PINK

Every 74 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer. It’s devastating, but not insurmountable. Experience Pink is a campaign to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and the search for a cure.

The community is encouraged to enjoy a night out at one of the 16 participating Kent County hotels or 30 downtown businesses during February. When you book one of the Experience Pink hotel packages, your hotel will donate $3 to the Susan G. Komen of West Michigan.

“Many families in Kent County are affected by breast cancer, as well as many families coming into Grand Rapids’ Medical Mile,” says Doug Small, president of Experience Grand Rapids. “Experience Pink is a great collaboration with Susan G. Komen and our tourism industry to give back to the community and help in the continued dedication to finding a cure and providing hope.”

The breast cancer awareness charity agrees.

“This campaign continues to demonstrate the power of our volunteers coming together and working to raise funds and awareness,” says Komen executive director Emma Powell. “Komen West Michigan is founded and thrives on the passion and strength of our survivors and co-survivors.  With Experience Pink, Komen has the ability to meet and welcome more men and women into our Pink Family.”

It’s very personal for one Grand Rapids hotel general manager, and a “no-brainer” when it comes to getting involved with the campaign.

“[Experiencing] the impact to my family and what [breast cancer] does to a woman and a family's core values was a very powerful game changer in my life,” confesses Radisson Riverfront GM Todd Roesler. “As a husband, father and business leader, if we can help heal the wounds of survivors and raise awareness to this curable breast cancer challenge, then we are making a contribution and cause for others that we know will follow in our footsteps.”
