Game on: Grand Rapids web and digital design firm is growing

Following a move to new offices at the end of 2011, Fusionary, a web design and digital design firm, has settled into a very productive groove and is ready to bring on more staff in 2013.

Looking back on the past year, founder Steve Lewis says his firm enjoyed a stellar run. "Overall, we had a great year. It was the best year as far as revenue. We worked on really cool projects and experienced no turnover in staff."

Referencing some of the "cool projects," Lewis highlights Michigan Micro Caps, a game developed internally by their team that not only promotes the Michigan beer industry, but their firm's creative  portfolio as well. "We developed a game many years ago and rolled that into our growing pride in the craft beer industry. It is part index and part game. We built our own adserver that is embedded in the game."

Besides supporting the local craft beer scene, the game shows off Fusionary's chops in making a highly entertaining digital marketing tool. "We always believed in the combination of making something relevant and desirable. The game side is what makes people pick it up and use it."

Moving forward, Lewis says that his firm, like many others in the same industry, are always hunting for talent. "It's great to see what is happening in Grand Rapids, although hiring is more competitive. That was one reason for the move. We created a very interesting space to work, and talent likes to work with talent."

Fusionary added one full-time designer in 2012 and is looking to add another designer and at least one developer in the upcoming months.
