Deksia turns an internship into a job

Megan Cooperider began her internship with Deksia in August 2012, and was doing what many interns do: basic project management, administrative duties, blogging, and some design work. Then opportunity knocked. Cooperider answered, and was subsequently hired as the firm's first public relations director.

Deksia President Aaron VanderGalien describes the hiring circumstance this way. "When we had public relation needs, we were pushing them out to another firm which does terrific work. Then we had a customer that did not have the resources for a full campaign, so we assigned it to Megan and she blew it up."

With the hiring of Cooperider, the 10-year-old firm now employs 11 people and has plans to add more technical staff, specifically a web developer and search engine optimization specialist in 2013.

VanderGalien says that like Cooperider, these positions will begin as an internship, but the focus will be on finding the right fit -- someone who is technical, creative, and collaborative. "We do not micro-manage the person. We will leave them to be creative in the approach to the work. We want them to bring their ideas to the table."
