Local software firm creates a Disney experience, puts Grand Rapids tech talent on a national stage

Springthrough, a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner and web development firm based in Grand Rapids, recently announced the launch of a Myflipbook application for Disney's Selena Gomez's 21 million Facebook fans

"We have an amazing group of technologists," states Tom Bieniewicz, VP of sales and marketing of Springthrough. Bieniewicz, along with several Springthrough members (Eric Spencer, Nick Olman, Paul Mead and Marion Siebert) discuss the backstory behind the Disney project.

"We did a Halloween-themed project for Meijer, which led to a great relationship on the West coast," recounts Spencer, who explains the project involved a great deal of customization and use of augmented reality.  "We could not get the facial type working and we sought out a national partner, Total Immersion, based out of California. They enjoyed working with Springthrough."

Leveraging that relationship and the success of the Meijer campaign, when Disney wanted to created something very interactive targeted toward a demographic of 12-16 year-old females, Springthrough was able to bid and win the project.

The end result is the Gomez Myflipbook application -- a tremendous technical and design achievement.

Bieniewicz gives total credit to the Springthrough team for the success of the project.

"Trying to find the best way to make the experience unique and evolve each interaction, along with adding a trophy system and leader board, took a total team effort," he says.

"Because of the size of the audience and the exposure of the client," Siebert adds, "we needed to make sure the application looks flawless."
