New marketing firm completes successful countdown to launch

"Less agency, more partner" is the mantra for Rocket Science, a four-member marketing firm that has just opened its doors for business at 820 Monroe in Grand Rapids, Mich.

According to Brett VanTil, co-founder, the name Rocket Science is a metaphor on how the team approaches its marketing efforts -- the combination of creative problem solving, performance measurement, and entrepreneurial initiative similar to the work that was behind launching the first rocket. "At our core, we are a creative company, but are constantly building in analytics. When you think about putting a rocket on the moon, it [was] a very creative endeavor, but also, it required a lot of technical specialists."

VanTil says each team member has previous experience in the marketing field, and all bring a entrepreneurial mindset to their new venture. "All four of the core members are entrepreneurs. I love entrepreneurship and steering my own ship, but this was a real great time and place to come together. We all had our specialities, but wanted to combine them under one roof to increase the value we can offer to our clients."

VanTil says the firm is already on overdrive, working with clients like Stryker Medical, Amway, and a major music festival slated for 2013.
