Ben Hughes

I am responsible for the management and development of a team of approximately 25 customer care executives in an international call center right here in Grand Rapids.  We handle guest inquiries round the clock and service over 40 different languages through email and phone contact.  In my role I am responsible for not only the different administrative tasks that come with people management, but also employee productivity and quality.  We work in a fast paced environment, so ensuring employee motivation and keeping up employee morale also plays a big part in my daily duties.  I am also responsible for handling escalated complaint situations with our international guests and ensuring speedy and satisfactory resolution.  As an international business I also spend a far amount of time interacting with our colleagues around the globe, from those within the United States, to our other international call centers in Europe and Asia.

As a call center we have experienced constant growth since I began in 2009, an encouraging sign for future development within the company.  I have had the opportunity to help develop our newest staff members and also got the chance to spend 3 months in France helping open a new call center.

As the event planner for West Michigan Caterer, I am responsible for meeting with potential clients, showing facilities, planning and coordinating events, daily correspondence with previous and future clients, supervising scheduled events, and many other details to ensure each event has a perfect outcome. I knew I wanted to work in the hospitality industry when I first began working for a catering company in college, and now have been given my dream opportunity to work as an event planner. I love getting the chance to work with people and to help them make their dream day a success. After moving back to Grand Rapids, I spent some time applying to multiple companies, and was contacted shortly after by their Director of Operations for an interview, and was hired shortly after. It’s been everything I hoped, and very exciting getting to do what I love.

Alissa Mundt

As the Corporate Business Travel Manager for the Amway Grand Plaza, Courtyard by Marriott and JW Marriott downtown Grand Rapids, I work to create and retain relationships with all of our corporate clients.  My job duties include client relationship building which we accomplish through client events, dinners and sales visits.  Additionally, I negotiate contracts with these clients and visit their agencies across the US to retain them in our corporate programs. I also monitor and load these rates within our systems to ensure they are selling properly to all of our business travelers.  My job means creating relationships and building loyalty amongst travel representatives and managers of our top accounts.

Megan Moliassa

I am responsible to the entire HR function at the JW; hiring, orientation, new hire training, Marriott required training, benefit explanation, coordination and maintenance (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Voluntary Life Insurance, 401 (k), Profit Sharing), worker's compensation, disciplinary action, employee mediation, conflict resolution, creating and maintaining new employee files/medical files, etc.  I also am responsible for associate events including planning and execution of a Marriott Appreciation Week, Associate and Leader of the Year Celebration, Holiday events, etc.  I am also the hotel's campaign coordinator for United Way, planning our yearly campaign.  I am a member of the hotel's Leadership Team or Executive Committee, so it is crucial to form relationships with all associates, including management to create an environment of open communication and support.  I also answer a LOT of questions!  The JW Marriott is owned by the Amway Hotel Corporation, so there is a lot of communication between properties, as well as, a very cohesive HR team between the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, the JW Marriott, and the Courtyard by Marriott.  We utilize similar policies and procedures and rely on consistency.

Samantha Jordan

As the Assistant to the Director of a busy country club, I am involved in many different aspects of daily operations.  My responsibilities include coordinating our Junior Sports Program, collaborating with the Director of Member Relations and Events on membership marketing, event execution and enhancing the member experience, overseeing facility projects, creating and executing management systems, designing special event menus, and assisting in inventory management.  One of my favorite features of this job is that day to day, tasks vary greatly, and life is always fresh and interesting.

I develop, assist and implement all marketing/advertising and many sales initiatives for the Amway Hotel Corporation, which include the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, J.W. Marriott - Grand Rapids and the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott.  Each separate hotel and separate restaurant or lounge has a distinct brand which I assist in creating and maintaining.  This involves, but is not limited to: website development, menu creation, email distribution, ad campaigns, commercials, in-room amenity creation and anything which may assist in providing a unique guest experience.  Special projects, such as: SOLACE magazine, ArtPrize, photo shoots, dining memberships, promotional parties, etc... are also under my responsibilities.

As a National Sales Manager for Meetings Michigan, my goal is to market and sell Michigan as a top destination for meetings and conventions.  We travel the country to bring together our partnering hotels, convention bureaus and meeting service providers with out of state meeting planners via trade shows, sponsorships and one on one customer appointments.  Meetings Michigan helps partners stretch their sales and marketing budget by providing cost-effective ways to promote Michigan on a national level.  A crucial aspect in these tough economic times!
