Historic preservation award winner launching new project on Wealthy

Bear Manor Properties plans to improve the 1,000 block of Wealthy Street with a project that’s one part renovation of an existing building and one part new construction. Bear Manor is working with local architecture firm Lott3Metz to redesign the first floor of the building at the corner of Wealthy and Donald. The renovation will add to retail spaces to the front of the building and two office suits in the rear.

Bear Manor also is working architecture firm DTS Winklemann to refurbish the exterior of the existing building and eventually improve an adjacent vacant lot with a new building designed to house commercial and residential space. Both projects are located in the Wealthy Street Renaissance Zone.

“We will work to place businesses that are beneficial to the community in our commercial spaces,” Barry said.

Bear Manor Properties, owned and operated by brothers Barry and Jackson Van Dyke, currently owns nine properties in Grand Rapids, including commercial and residential properties located on the city’s northeast and southeast sides. The company recently received an award from the Grand Rapids Historic Preservation Commission for its work to completely restore 101-year old home located at 607 Union.
