Sam Short, general manager of
Grand Rapids Brewing Company, says the company is looking to fill more than 60 new jobs before its August 31 opening at 1 Ionia Ave. SW, Grand Rapids.
"We are looking for people who are passionate about beer, first and foremost," Short says. "We will have bartenders, servers, bar backs, bussers, food runners and hosts. We are looking for team-oriented, passionate people."
Mark Sellers, who owns several bars in downtown Grand Rapids including
HopCat,
Stella's Lounge and
The Viceroy, purchased the Grand Rapids Brewing Company (GRBC). Sellers is moving the restaurant/bar from 28th Street to downtown, and aside from the name and equipment, it will be an entirely new microbrewery.
"Our brewers are already formulating new recipes," Short says. "It will be a very different atmosphere and ambiance. It will be a family-friendly brewpub with great indoor and outdoor space. Designed with the showpiece brewery in mind, it will be an amalgam of historical architecture, wood and classic brick."
In addition to front of the house opportunities, Short says he will be putting together a full kitchen staff.
"Our heart of house staff will be an integral part of our everyday business. We are looking for a head chef, several line cooks and shift leaders, and people interested in being a part of creating a menu that uses only local, sustainable or organic products."
Eight managers will also be hired, and will serve as liaisons between brewers and servers as well as oversee the day-to-day operations.
GRBC has already hired two head brewers. Additional hiring will occur in August, but the company is accepting resumes now. Resumes may be turned in at HopCat, 25 Ionia Ave. SW.
