Mitch Ranger opens photography studio in Grand Rapids

Mitch Ranger, a lifestyle, portrait and lifestyle photographer who has just opened a studio at 401 Hall St. SW, the Mitch Ranger Photography,  says one of his photos has been chosen for the upcoming Communication Arts Photo Annual.

Ranger says there were about 30,000 entries from around the world who vied for the magazine's prestigious award. The award-winning photo to be featured in the July issue is of a young woman sitting in front of a display of birds at the special Land of Riches exhibit at the former Grand Rapids Public Museum earlier this year.

In addition to having his work selected, Ranger says he is particularly excited about opening a 2,200-square-foot studio on the southern edge of a renovated factory, with natural light flooding into the room from three sides. "I was taken aback by the light," he says. "It's so beautiful. Typically, a studio is like a cave but the light affects people's mood. They're so much happier when there is beautiful light."

Among his clients are Herman Miller, Spectrum Health, Holland Hospital, J.W. Marriott, Founders Brewery and several magazines including Solace, Redbook, Guitar World, Bicycling Essence and Fortune.

Ranger's studio will be home for one full-time and one part-time assistant in addition to four stylists. He will be hosting an open house at his studio from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 24 for his clients.
